Affiliates

MENTOR scales impact by developing and supporting Affiliates on a national level. These Affiliates are non-partisan, public-private organizations that galvanize local or statewide mentoring movements. They provide the leadership and infrastructure necessary to support the expansion of quality mentoring relationships. MENTOR Affiliates also serve a unique role as a clearinghouse for training, resources, public awareness, and advocacy, providing the critical link between MENTOR’s national efforts and local organizations and programs that foster and support quality mentoring relationships. The Mentoring Movement:
A Complex Adaptive System

The Mentor Affiliate Network is a complex adaptive system made up of different stakeholders, all working together for one goal: to ensure that all young people who need and want a mentor in their lives have the opportunity to have one.

A neutral network of independent components sometimes acts as a unified whole to learn from experience and adapt to the changing environment. The network has a complex structure between and amongst its members as they work towards a common goal, constantly making adjustments as trends emerge, new practices are established, and young people inform and provide feedback.

As an affiliate CEO in this system, I need to interface, collaborate, partner, inform, and learn from all our stakeholders to help propel the mentoring movement in New York State while still informing and impacting the larger vision of our National MENTOR affiliate network and the overall mentoring movement.

MENTOR: National

Conducts Research, Engages in National initiatives with National partners, and informs the mentoring movement and any industry engaging young people. They collaborate and partner with local affiliates to implement strategies that scale mentoring.

MENTOR Affiliates

Local affiliates work closely with the National organization to stay apprised of market trends, best practices, research, and resources. They support other affiliates by sharing resources, tools, and information while providing direct services in their communities through partnerships with local partners implementing or managing mentoring programs or infusing mentoring practices in their work.

Program Partners

Each Affiliate has a program portfolio of partners from all industries interested in working with young people up to 24. The programs receive the support, tools, resources, and expertise they need to implement design, strategies, and outcomes successfully. MENTOR New York has a portfolio of 1300 programs.

Young People

All mentor affiliates and program partners work on this shared mission and vision to help young people thrive by ensuring they have caring adult(s) intentionally developing mentoring relationships that positively impact their lives. Their voice and feedback are an essential part of program practice development and shaping the mentoring movement to meet their needs and circumstances.
